New mortgage stress test rules take effect. 

Here's what you need to know.


Starting June 1, Canadian homebuyers will face tougher mortgage stress test rules that will decrease the buying power of most borrowers.

The move, announced by the country’s banking regulator in May, was in response to an overheated market that has already started to see signs of cooling.


The pace of home sales seen at the start of the year started to slow in April as the number of homes sold fell by 12.5 per cent compared with the record high set in March, according to the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA).

In solidarity in Squamish

Muni and the school district show support after the bodies of 215 Indigenous children were discovered in unmarked graves in Kamloops.



At local schools, flags were lowered to half-mast on Monday, May 31st, at the Squamish Nation’s request, according to district 48 spokesperson Jennifer Morris. 


At Howe Sound Secondary, orange ribbons circle the school. 


Principals and site supervisors have also sent out a notice to students and staff asking for everyone to wear orange shirts to work and school until June 9th (215 hours), Morris said. 


Other ways of wearing orange are also available, for example, orange ribbon or strips of an orange t-shirt can be worn on a wrist.

Some schools have used paper to cut out small orange t-shirts to pin onto their students’ clothing.

"It's shown that if you have a slightly longer interval, you're getting stronger and longer-lasting protection."

 

Wondering how long is too long to wait for a vaccine booster shot? 


You're not alone. 


B.C. has ramped up its vaccination effort tremendously in the past few weeks. Now, over 75 per cent of adults are vaccinated with their first dose, exceeding the target Step 2 minimum threshold of 65 per cent. 


But while the majority of British Columbians have received one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, many of them haven't been contacted about a second dose. 


Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said that people shouldn't feel anxious about getting their second jab. Instead, she underscored that a longer interval between first and second doses will offer better protection.

A PERSONAL NOTE

Well, I really don't have anything to say about the month of May.  

Things slowed tremendously in real estate, so, I had a little more time to myself.  I did spend a fair bit of time personally looking at the macroeconomic conditions globally - yes that is what I do in my spare time. 


Kids are doing what they were doing before and Chloe is learning to drive.....that's fun.  The really good news about that is that Chloe wants to go to the race track and so we are on the look for a track car....Chloe and I will drive and Liam will turn the wrenches.  Andrea continues to manage the family while re-establishing the wine sales business, not to mention the staging and photo businesses.....tiring.  


Anyway, we will be off to Osoyoos in the beginning weeks of July for our annual summer getaway.  Hopefully summer arrives before then.
